His Excellency Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani was appointed Minister of Culture in October 2021.
Professional Career:
His Excellency Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani has held several prominent positions in the cultural field. He was appointed Head of the Gulf and Arab Publications Censorship Department from 2006 to 2010 (under the General Authority for Radio and Television in 2006, and the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage in 2010). He also served as the Chairman of the Media Committee for “Doha, the Arab Capital of Culture” at the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage in 2010.
Between 2010 and 2014, His Excellency worked in the Office of His Highness the Crown Prince at the Amiri Diwan. Subsequently, he held the position of Director of Media Development at the Qatar Media Corporation from 2011 to 2014.
In 2014, His Excellency became the Chief Executive Officer of the Qatar Media Corporation, a role he held until 2021.
Additionally, His Excellency serves as the Chairman of the National Day Celebrations Organizing Committee, Chairman of the State Appreciation and Encouragement Awards Trustees Committee, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Qatar National Archive, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Qatar National Library, and a member of the Board of Directors of Al Jazeera Media Network.
Educational Background:
His Excellency holds a bachelor’s degree in media from Qatar University. He has also participated in several training programs in the United States, including a leadership program with the U.S. government and a public diplomacy course at the University of Southern California.
