In collaboration with the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science, the Qatari Forum for Authors is celebrating the United Nations Arabic Language Day. As part of these celebrations, the Forum is shedding light on leading initiatives that aim to serve and promote the Arabic language. In one such initiative, Dr. Hamdi Mubarak, lead computer programmer at Qatar Computing Research Institute, was interviewed by Dr. Abdul Haq Bilabid, Professor of Literature and Literary Criticism at Qatar University and member of the Qatari Forum for Authors. The interview focused on the challenges that face Arabic language processing. Dr. Mubarak introduced the Firasa platform, which enables Arabic artificial intelligence applications. Firasa is a developed by a team of specialists and experts in Arabic computational engineering at Hamad bin Khalifa University’s Qatar Computing Research Institute. Dr. Mubarak gave an introduction on how Firara tools allow Arabic-English machine translation, Arabic text to speech processing, and Arabic speech recognition, among other applications.
