The Qatar Photography Centre of the Ministry of Culture organized the workshop “Basics and Secrets of Bird Photography”, on the sidelines of “Al-Saber” exhibition.

The workshop was presented by photographer Mohammed Al-Bakr, where participants learned about how wildlife, bird life and behaviour are portrayed, the necessary equipment and the right times for shooting.

Qatar Photography Center through its workshops aims to develop photographic hobby and encourage photographers as well as upgrade their capabilities and technical skills in this field The Center also presents video photography workshops alongside photography in an effort to keep abreast of new media developments. The Qatari Center for Stamps and Coins, affiliated to the Ministry of Culture, is organizing, at its headquarters, an exhibition of sports stamps, in which a group of sports stamps from different countries of the world is displayed. The exhibition also includes the stamps of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and all the sports issues that were issued in the stamps of Qatar, from the Tokyo Olympics in 1964 to the currency issues of the Asian Games, which were held in Doha in 2006. The exhibition includes 11 frames Each frame contains 16 stamp panels, in addition to graphics for mathematical stamps as well. The exhibition activities will last for two weeks, and its doors will be opened daily from nine in the morning until eight in the evening for amateurs, visitors and those interested in the hobby of collecting stamps. The Qatari Center for Stamps and Coins aims to sponsor and spread the hobby of collecting stamps and coins and work to improve it and provide conditions for its development by all means and means for its members to practice this hobby.

The Culture and Arts Department of the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Indonesian community in Doha, organized an event to familiarize itself with the Minang culture west of Sumatra, in Beit al-Sulaiti. The “Creative” training programme offered by the Qatari Authors’ Forum was launched within the project of discovering and nurturing creative writing talents. It is a free intensive programme, consisting of “11” training sessions with a total of “28” hours, offered in the evening at QVC headquarters.

Dr. Aisha Jassim Al-Kuwari, the Director-General of the Qatari Authors’ Forum, said that the training programme was “Creative”, with the number of seats allocated to the course completed in less than 48 hours, revealing the great interest in such a training programme. The Qatari Media Centre of the Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the Qatar Technical School for Girls, organized a workshop entitled “Speech skills and speaking art”, which was presented by Iman Al Kaabi, the Director of Qatar Media Centre. The workshop, which showed a great interaction and acceptance by female students and teachers of the Technical School for Girls, touched on a number of themes that enable the speaker to possess talk skills without fear or feeling afraid in front of a gathering of the audience.

The workshop also touched on the most important skills that the speaker should have to be a good speaker, as well as the mechanisms to convince the audience of what is put forward by the speaker and the skills that enable the speaker to be persuasive in putting it forward.

The tutor Iman Al-Kaabi addressed how to resist the speaker’s shame, especially with regard to his ability to stand in front of the public without fear, which gives him greater fluency in addressing and convincing attendees. The body movements during the talk had some interest in the workshop, with the instructor identifying Kaabi’s belief in the body movements required during the presentation and those that were exaggerated and should be avoided. Iman Al Kaabi, Director of Qatar Media Center, said that the workshop was distinguished by the large presence of students and some members of the teaching staff, as this large presence and its interaction contributed greatly to the success of the workshop.

She expressed her pleasure at this cooperation between Qatar Media Centre and Qatar Technical School, stressing the Center’s desire to open cooperation with any entity wishing to take advantage of the Center’s potential in the field of training and media development.

The Ministry of Culture issued Issue No. (182) for January 2023 of “Doha Cultural” magazine. The issue included two files, the first concerned with the great Iraqi Arab poet Badr Shaker Al-Sayyab, and a passage from the introduction of the late Egyptian poet Hassan Tawfiq for the book Selected Poems of Modern International Poetry, and the second file celebrates the experience of the Qatari novelist Faisal Al-Ansari, the winner of the Katara Prize for Arabic Fiction, through a comprehensive dialogue about his experience, creativity, and his views on culture and narrative.

Mr. Khaled Al-Awda Al-Fadhli, the Editor-in-Chief, started the issue with a speech on “The World Cup and the Immortal Cultural Heritage”, in which he referred to the association of the 2022 World Cup activities hosted by Doha with culture and civilization and the dissemination of the Arab-Islamic identity, which had a wide resonance in promoting identity and openness to the other, and exporting the cultural and civilizational product, and conveying the image of creativity and civilization through what has been embodied on the land of Qatar.

The issue included two files, the first concerned was about the great Iraqi Arab poet Badr Shaker Al-Sayyab (1926-1964) through contributions initiated by the poet and the novelist Issa al-Sheikh Hassan, with a speech about Al-Sayyab’s presence in the 25^th edition of the Gulf Cup hosted by the city of Basra last January, in addition to a clip from the introduction of the late Egyptian poet Hassan Tawfiq to the book Selected Poems of Modern International Poetry, translated by Badr Shaker Al-Sayyab, whose second edition was published in 2012 within “Doha Book” series, in which he reviewed Al-Sayyab’s great poetic presentation.

The file also included an article by the Qatari poet Mubarak bin Saif Al Thani, entitled: The Journey of Poetry with Badr Shaker Al-Sayyab, published in the fifth issue of Doha Magazine, in 1976, in which he reviewed features of Al-Sayyab’s social life, and the sources of his culture, style and poeticism… starting from the village of the poet “Jekur”, which he immortalized in his poetry.

The second file celebrates the experience of the Qatari novelist Faisal Al-Ansari, the winner of Katara Prize for Arabic Fiction, through a comprehensive dialogue about his experience, creativity, and views on culture and narrative. The title of the novel is “The Fires of Toubkal”, Realities of History in the Service of Imagination, by the writer Nashwa Ahmed, along with selected passages from the recently published novel “The Fires of Toubkal” by the author.

The “Issues” section included an article by writer and novelist Jokha Al-Harthi on “The Novel, Document or Fiction?” on the replacement of traditional political authority by societal censorship, this censorship became more severe for the writer.

The novelist and researcher Ammar Ali Hassan wrote about: “Shadow Intellectuals, a vision from the angle of the sociology of knowledge.” The storyteller Mohammad Mohammad Mustagab wrote: “On Al-Maghout, Zorba the Arab prose – a face full of confusion and hope.”

Meanwhile, the writer Pierre Louis Cass recalled, in the article “Pele Walks on the Moon,” translated by Aziz Al-Samadi, the charming beauty of the skills of the most famous football player.

The music section included a dialogue on African music, arts, and cultural identity, conducted by writer and translator Abdel-Jabbar Abdallah with Professor Pascal Yau-Young.

The great critic Sabri Hafez wrote about the Chinese literature and the variables of the novel and theatre.

In the chapter on vision, Dr. Khaled Azab wrote about the nature of Islamic art, a visual communication of a civilization based on the concept of acquaintance, and the novelist Wajdi al-Ahdal wondered in the same chapter, what is human literature, between the arcs of excessive growth of the mind and the private space of the soul?

As for Tashkeel, critic Mohamed Adham Al-Sayed wrote about: Strange monsters that promenade on the beaches and feed on the wind, in the experience of the Dutch artist Theo Bansen.

In the section of readings, the critic Imad Abdel Latif wrote four stories on the sidelines of the novel Moby Dick, and the critic and academic Dr. Ahmed Al-Sadiq Ahmed wrote readings entitled: From the Light of Thought, Biography and Narration.

The writer Sherine Maher shed light in the cinema section on the movie “Ticket to Heaven, entitled: From the End of the World to Celebration of Life, and the issue concluded with the storyteller, translator and academic Khalifa Hazaa, who wrote about: Grotesques … The Literature of the Strange.

The Qatari Forum for Authors, in cooperation with the Qatari Media Center, organized a critical reading of the novel Land of Storytellers by Dr. Hanan Al-Fayyad, a faculty member at Qatar University. Participated in the critical session of each of Dr. Imtenan Al-Smadi, Professor of Arabic Literature at the University of Jordan, and Dr. Murad Mabrouk, Professor of Criticism and Modern Literature at Qatar University, and Dr. Noura Farag, Professor of Literature and Criticism at Qatar University, and Dr. Seetah Al-Athba, Head of the Arabic Language Department at Qatar University, meanwhile, the session was managed by Dr. Fatima Al Suwaidi who is a Professor of Literature and Criticism at Qatar University. Dr. Al-Suwaidi said that the novel raises deep and buried problems in the Arab society, especially with regard to tribalism and racism, its forms, and its connection to the intellectual and cultural structure.

Dr. Noura Mohammad Faraj said that: The novel belongs to the dystopia that has become a presence in the Arabic literature, and it used a poetic language to express the contradictions of the world, which is a forward-looking vision for the future and a criticism of the living reality. In turn, Dr. Imtenan Al-Smadi said that: The novel has a forward-looking dimension regarding scientific and technical progress, and it contains the equation of the East and its technical superiority over the West. It is an optimistic vision through which the writer sought to direct the attention of the recipient to the dominance of scientific progress over humanity. Dr. Seetah Al-Athba confirmed that this work will remain in the memory of everyone who reads it because it is distinguished and deserves to be stopped, in terms of the language that was one of the protagonists of the novel because it was fresh and had a lot of poetry.

Al-Jasra Cultural Salon hosted the colleague Majed Hamad Al-Jabara in a lecture entitled “The Role of Satirical Literature in Addressing Societal Issues.” The meeting was initiated by the writer, Hanan Badi’, the coordinator of the Al-Jasra Cultural Salon, where she welcomed the guest and the attendees, and gave a brief summary of the guest’s scientific and practical journey, then, she referred the speech to him, where he expressed his happiness at his presence in Al-Jasra Club in particular, and in “Al-Yasra” in general, explaining that ease is life and existence. He added by saying that: We were the last generation born and our personality was formed through the environment of ease, then, the lecturer continued the conversation on the subject of his lecture, starting with some problems, including facing reality and self-criticism, where he said that he sought to communicate his idea in a simple way that has a kind of irony especially since we are in a society that is described as serious and rigid and does not like ambiguity, and that is why the idea of ​​​​his book “Spilled Ink” came about. He added by saying that: Let’s pour the ink and let what happens happen, and pointed out that for that reason he chose the path of satirical literature without all methods. Here, he referred to the Hungarian proverb that says: (There is no good in all seriousness).

Thus, the lecture continued, which the audience followed, responding to its lecturer, as they discussed with him on several aspects and points related to the topic. The session also witnessed the distribution of copies of the publication authored by the writer under the title “The Spilled Ink”, and several chapters of it were discussed. This meeting culminated in honoring the guest, who was presented by the Secretary General, Mohammed Nasser Al-Obaidan, with a certificate of thanks and the shield of the club.
