The main stage of Doha International Book Fair witnessed the holding of a discussion session entitled (Reducing Desertification), embodying the slogan of the Expo 2023 Doha Horticultural Exhibition, “A greener desert is a better environment.”

During the session, talks were made about the vision of the exhibition, with the participation of His Excellency Mr. Badr bin Omar Al Dafa, Special Envoy of His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Climate and Sustainable Development Affairs and Commissioner-General of Expo 2023 Doha for Horticulture, Dr. Youssef Al-Horr, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Gulf Organization for Research and Development, and Mr. Mohamed Al-Khoury, the Secretary-General for Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha, and the media symposium was moderated by Sheikha Al-Mannai.

His Excellency Mr. Badr bin Omar Al Dafa said that: The expected exhibition will go down in history as the first international exhibition of horticulture A1 in Qatar, the Middle East and North Africa, and pointed out that the matter will allow there to be cultural sustainability in addition to environmental sustainability that will present the most wonderful pictures of Qatar, indicating that there will be about (70) countries, which will allow the display of different cultures by presenting theatrical performances and singers from all over the world, over a period of (6) months, which will allow opening new horizons for tourism, and introducing the visiting masses to our culture and heritage.

For his part, Mohammed Al-Khoury addressed the challenges facing the world and made it in need of a sustainable environment, and touched on the preparations that are currently being worked on to make the events related to the exhibition able to achieve the aspired goals.

He reviewed the participations that will extend to different categories, in addition to visits to schools and organizing competitions for all, including teachers, to encourage them to participate in the exhibition.

He stressed that the exhibition will inspire the international community to explore and adopt innovative solutions to combat desertification.

As for Dr. Youssef Al-Horr, he spoke about sustainable means of transportation and many forms of work on the sustainable environment in Qatar, including the metro network.

He said that: “Work has been done to develop a comprehensive encyclopedia of plants, whether grown in our environments or adapted, and it will be launched in conjunction with the upcoming Expo 2023 Doha Horticultural Exhibition.”
