A cultural symposium held yesterday evening at Ramadan Book Fair Council held at Darb Al-Saai headquarters confirmed that the State of Qatar is one of the largest supporters of the United Nations programs.

The symposium, which was attended by His Excellency Mr. Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, the President of the United Nations General Assembly for the sixty-sixth session and the former High Representative of the United Nations for the Alliance of Civilizations, indicated that the State of Qatar has its own mark in the quiet diplomatic field and leading a global dialogue that achieves peace and supports the spread of the values of tolerance in relations. international.

His Excellency Mr. Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al-Nasr addressed the great role played by the State of Qatar and is still playing at the international level, as it is supportive of United Nations programmes, the most important of which is the role of international mediation; Qatar has gained credibility, respect and confidence with the international community, which enabled it to use soft power in resolving many international issues.

His Excellency added that the State of Qatar is supportive of the various programs of the international organization, the most important of which is supporting refugees, reducing the effects of natural disasters, combating corruption and fighting organized crime, promoting Qatari diplomats on various international sites, chairing many international meetings and hosting many international conferences in Doha, which is great contributions that we are proud of as Qataris, especially with the global status that Qatar has now reached.

He pointed out that the role that the State of Qatar contributes is an affirmation of its role in the organization and that it sets an example for others to play such roles.

On how to benefit from the success of cultural diplomacy that resulted in the State of Qatar hosting the 2022 World Cup, H. E. Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al-Nasr said in a statement on the side lines of the symposium that Qatar’s hosting of the World Cup, and the success that dazzled the world, is not only at the level of official organization, but, also at the international level and the public level as well, and with the testimony of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA), put Qatar on the global map as it became a source of respect for the world, referring to Qatar’s success in using sport as a soft power, calling for the need to invest all soft power tools such as culture, sports and dialogue to help achieve mediation for peace.

His Excellency Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, the President of the United Nations General Assembly for the sixty-sixth session and the former High Representative of the United Nations for the Alliance of Civilizations, spoke during the symposium about his journey in diplomatic work since his work in the United Nations as Deputy Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, then, the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, where the wise leadership directed at the time was to activate the role of the State of Qatar in the UN organization, referring to achieving this through the permanent delegation, where the delegation was nominated for several general committees, then the Human Rights Committee, so that Qatari diplomats would occupy important positions in the organization, pointing to the election of a state Qatar chaired the Group of 77 and China in 2003. The State of Qatar played an important role in achieving the demands of the countries of the South, as the State of Qatar hosted an international conference attended by more than 90 presidents and prime ministers worldwide. In light of this hosting, the role of the State of Qatar emerged at the international level.

His Excellency added that the State of Qatar then applied for membership in the Security Council, to succeed in obtaining the membership of the Council with the highest votes in 2006, the year in which the Israeli occupation forces launched their war on Lebanon, which represented a challenge to the State of Qatar during the period of this membership, so that the State of Qatar would succeed In issuing Resolution 1701, which stopped the war, stressing that Qatar’s membership in the Security Council was successful and was praised on the Arab and international levels.

Al-Nasr spoke about his experience presiding over the sixty-sixth session of the United Nations General Assembly, stressing that he made the title of this stage “mediation for peace,” referring to many positions adopted by the State of Qatar in conducting negotiations and bringing peace to many countries of the world.

The symposium, which was moderated by the journalist Hassan Al-Saei, and attended by a group of intellectuals, witnessed an interaction from the audience through many comments and interventions that enriched the symposium.

It is worth mentioning that Ramadan Book Fair concludes its activities today, Sunday, with the participation of 79 publishing houses from Qatar and a number of Arab and foreign countries.
