The students and talents of Qatar University presented a distinguished theatrical performance, as part of their participation in the 35th Doha Theater Festival. Critics and the public presented the show during the applied symposium that followed it.

Regarding the show, the young director Nasser Issa said that: This experience is his second in Doha Theater Festival, where he participated in last year’s edition, indicating that he wants to repeat the same achievement that was achieved last year for Qatar University and the same level and distinguished public success.

With regard to the “Journey to Tomorrow” show, Issa said that the show revolves around technology in its life and its extent of acceptance and assimilation, and we wanted through it to present an important message to the public, which is that development is an important thing, but it is not at the expense of abandoning our principles, customs, and traditions.

As for the team participating in the show, the director Nasser Issa explained that he is participating as a hero of the show alongside a group of young people who are standing on stage for the first time, and this is a good opportunity to learn and let us all gain experience and stand on strengths and weaknesses to develop.

About the importance of the festival and participation in it, he said that: Our participation in the festival carries many positives for all of us. Friction with theatrical figures and professors is an important and necessary thing for us, so we cannot advance without learning and benefiting from those with expertise and experiences.

It is worth mentioning that Lusail University troupe had presented the second performance within the festival’s performances under the title “Shahbandar Al-Tajjar on the Perplexed Sultan” and the play from the immortal texts of Tawfiq Al-Hakim (1898-1987), and it was directed on the university stage by Abdul Rahman Al-Hababi, represented by Abdul Rahman Al-Hababi, Engy Mahmoud, Maryam Fawzi, Rayan Abdul Khaleq, Faisal Al Balushi, Firas Anabtawi, Abdul Rahman Moharr, and Abdullah Tawfiq. Costumes by Nour Diab and Aya Youssef, and scenography by Abdul Rahman Al Hababi.

the play “The Confused Sultan” deals with the story of a Mamluk who defeated the Mongols and came to rule as his master’s successor, and suspicions surround him and the Sultan discovers that he is a slave bought and is the child of the Sultan who succeeded him, and the people rebel and the Sultan, along with his minister, tries to silence the mouths by force, but the judge reminds him of the law and presents the king with the choice either the sword or the law in which salvation is.

The applied symposium for the theatrical show “Shahbandar Al-Tajjar… about the Confused Sultan” witnessed a debate about the importance of addressing mistakes, as it is one of the important pillars that the artist can base on at the beginning of his artistic career and correct his path and mistakes on stage. On the other hand, some playwrights and critics saw that it is necessary to show more wisdom and experience in dealing with the experiences of rising youth, because the arena needs them badly, and dealing sharply in criticism may reflect negatively on them.

Commenting on the show, critic Dr. Hassan Rashid praised the elements of the theatrical spectacle in the play “Shahbandar Al-Tajjar”, ​​pointing out to the performance of the actors on stage, and the directorial vision of the young director Abdul Rahman Al-Hababi, in the feedback symposium that followed the theatrical performance, in the presence of a group of playwrights from different generations.

The director and hero of the play, Abdul Rahman Al-Hababi, responded to their questions and observations with great care to accept various opinions and record them in order to correct some mistakes and continue his career in the field of theatrical directing and acting with all ability.
