Her Excellency, Sheikha/Hessa bint Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, the Envoy of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States for Humanitarian Affairs, affirmed the leadership of the State of Qatar in humanitarian and charitable work at the Arab and international levels.
Her Excellency said, during Ramadan Council (Majlis) of Ramadan Book Fair, which is currently being held at the Darb Al-Saai headquarters in Umm Salal, that the State of Qatar is one of the pioneering countries in humanitarian work, as it has been distinguished for many years in this field through its institutions such as the Red Crescent, Qatar Charity and many other entities operating in the humanitarian and relief field.
She explained that these institutions have registered their international presence to become the real arms of the State and to transform material support of relief and charitable work and assistance to refugees and displaced persons into humanitarian and development programs and projects and reached the United Nations where Qatar Charity was registered as a member among the societies registered in the Economic and Social Council of the UN organization.
She pointed out that she was a witness to many educational and development projects undertaken by Qatar Charity and other institutions as many of these initiatives are organized in coordination with the United Nations and with the relevant agencies noting that what distinguishes the State of Qatar is its constructive and good work with all partners and in the most difficult times.
During the session, Her Excellency, Sheikha/Hessa also valued the efforts of humanitarian and relief organizations at the level of the Arab world, calling for the need to coordinate these Arab efforts to achieve optimal investment for them, in addition to promoting innovation in this field in order to meet the needs of those affected and work to find projects with greater effectiveness. This necessitates creating an Arab platform that provides all data on Arab relief efforts, as well as promoting research in the field of humanitarian work as well as paying attention to evaluation processes.
Her Excellency touched on the presence of women in the field of humanitarian work at the Arab level, stressing that it is still insufficient and limited and is often limited to the executive fields while it is often absent at the level of management and planning.
It is mentioning that Ramadan Book Fair continues until next Sunday at Darb Al-Saai headquarters in Umm Salal with the participation of 79 local, Arab and foreign publishing houses and includes many accompanying cultural events.
