The Ministry of Culture announced that it will continue to accept submissions for the ninth edition of the State Award in Children’s Literature.

The Ministry of Culture announced through its official Twitter account that it will continue to accept submissions for the State Award in Children’s Literature until April 30. Submissions can be uploaded to the award’s website, which can be reached through the link on the Twitter announcement.

The Ministry posted a video on its Twitter account explaining the submission process. “In an effort by the Qatari Ministry of Culture to promote children’s literature, you are invited to submit your creative work to be considered for the ninth edition of the State Award in Children’s Literature. The award categories are: short stories and novels, plays, poetry, literary studies, and children’s songs,” the video explained. The award for the winning submission is QR 200,000. The deadline for submissions is the end of April 2022. Submissions can be uploaded to the award website, which can be visited through the award’s social media platforms.

The award Twitter account also provides detailed information regarding the award categories, such as children’s poetry and songs, explaining their value in developing children’s personalities, interests, and skills. The account states that the purpose of the award is to develop age-appropriate resources for children that are suitable for their interests. The award is intended to encourage children to visit libraries and benefit from their services. Children’s literature helps children develop their cognitive, linguistic, artistic, scientific, and social skills while fostering their talents and skills. It also helps children develop their organized thinking and life-long reading habits, as well as positive social attitudes, such as cooperation, friendship, and respect for others.

The announcement invites those interested in submitting their literary and artistic works to visit the award’s website for more information.

The award aims to support the production of high-quality age-appropriate literary works for children that promote their literary and intellectual skills.

The latest edition of the Doha International Book Fair promoted the award through a discussion forum entitled Writing for Children: How to bridge the gap between children and books. The forum discussed the role of the award in supporting children’s literature. The Ministry of Culture’s exhibit provided information about the award and the submission process, in addition to the Ministry’s publications for children.
