The second stage of the “Poet of Universities” competition, organized by the Ministry of Culture- represented by Qatar Poetry Center (Diwan Al-Arab) – kicks off today in collaboration with the Department of Student Activities at Qatar University and a number of universities and civil and military colleges. It aims to identify and attract poetic talent. At this stage, 34 poets in Nabati and classical poetry categories are competing. The competition runs until next March, and comes as part of the effort to enrich Qatar’s poetry movement among students, as Qatar Poetry Center believes in supporting poetic talent and creating the right literary atmosphere for poets to enrich the scene with their creativity.

 

It is worth notice that the jury consists of the following poets: Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Sada, Zayed Croz, Ali Al-Massoudi, Hadan Sabah Al-Kubaisi, and Mubarak Al Khalifa. Finally, the total value of the competition prizes is 180,000 QR, where the first place holder will receive 50,000 QR, the second will receive 25,000 QR, while the third place will receive 15,000 QR; in each category.
