The Youth Affairs Department of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, in conjunction with the secretariat of the Shura Council, in an attempt to keep up with the important and vital national events, plans to implement a youth event to simulate the meetings of the Consultative Council. The meetings will be held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on 11-12 August from 6 to 9 p.m.
The event will witness the participation of 16 member of both genders, who were trained during the past period on the hands of professor Mohamed Al- Sada, the head of the Legal Affairs Department of the Shura Council.
With the aim of introducing young people to the important role of the Council and the importance of positive participation in the selection of its members, and to train young people in a practical way in the exercise of the functions and competencies of the Council in terms of both legislation and oversight, In addition to identifying the procedural aspects of the election of the President and Vice-Presidents and the composition of the committees, as well as raising awareness among young people, encouraging them to participate actively in the elections, whether by voting or standing for election, and informing them of the newly promulgated laws relating to Council elections (Law No. 6) and Law No. (7). In this regard, the administration prepared videos to identify the effectiveness.
For her part, Ms. Maha Al-Rumaihi, Director of the Youth Affairs Department, said: “After the ratification of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the country, Law No. (6) of 2021 issuing the Shura Council Election System Law. Law No. (7) of 2021 regarding The Shura Council, and Decree No. (37) of 2021 defining the electoral districts of the Shura Council and their respective regions, which resulted in the first direct general elections to choose members of the Shura Council, in addition to granting broad legislative and oversight powers to the Council, it was necessary for us in the Ministry of Culture and Sports in general to interact with these important national developments, She also clarified that the expected event would be based on their belief in youth governance, the important role played by young people at all historical points in the country, the desire to communicate the voice of young people as a community force capable of positive change. She also indicated that their move to organize this event came as well, realizing the importance of the youth’s presence in this event, and the responsibilities that depend on them to participate in choosing an efficient council capable of keeping pace with the requirements of the stage, based on their awareness of the necessity of choosing the most suitable candidates to play this role.
