Qatari Forum for Authors organized a lecture entitled “Islamic Civilization and Architecture” presented by the researcher and the plastic artist Mohammad Ali Abel within the activities of Doha, Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021.

 

The lecturer reviewed the crucial role of the State of Qatar and its positive impact in preserving Islamic architecture in the region pointing to the mention of the State of Qatar in the Pre-Islamic Arab Heritage as well as Islamic Heritage.

 

The researcher indicated that the old building system was very accurate and this is called the rules and laws of Gulf architecture with pebbles and mud that are possibilities that only Gulf construction knows. He explained that the State of Qatar revived the original scheme of Islamic mosques more than ten years ago.

 

He said that the most important historical mosques in the State of Qatar include Bulqabeeb Mosque or the Dome Mosque which was called the forty four mosque because it contains 44 domes. It was built by Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammad, the founder in 1878 where this type of mosque is considered an authentic type.

 

Contributions of Qatar to the Islamic architecture are a witness to the history as they includes edifices that clearly reflect the art of Islamic civilization. Therefore, it was worthy of being the capital of Islamic culture. The most prominent of these edifices is the Education City Mosque, a modern building of Islamic identity and character inspired by the character of Islamic architecture. This is represented in the two high minarets and the many Islamic inscriptions that decorate its external and internal walls.

 

In addition, the Museum of Islamic Art, which is a minaret of Islamic heritage. It has external surfaces designed in the form of ancient Islamic palaces. Moreover, the Mosque of Imam Mohammad bin Abdul Wahhab, may God have mercy on him, and its external prayer yards and the domes on the top of it in a sequential manner of an ancient Islamic character. It represents one of the edifices of Islamic architecture and many other ancient and modern edifices.
