Her Excellency, Sheikha Al Mayassa Bint Hamad Al Thani, chaired the first meeting of the new Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums Authority. Attendees of the meeting were His Excellency Salah Bin Ghanem Al Ali, Minister of Culture and Sports, His Excellency Akbar Al Baker, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways and Secretary General of the National Tourism Council in addition to the newly appointed heads of Qatar Museums.
The Board of Trustees supports the efforts of Qatar Museums to protect and manage the cultural heritage of the State of Qatar and ensures the global position of Qatar Museums as a prestigious institution with its contributions and efforts in supporting the national creative economy and identifying creative talents in the region and the world. She said, “The Qatar Museums Board of Trustees will play a pivotal role in Qatar Museums’ plan to expand our local activities and events.”
She added, “Qatar Museums has already become a global institution and responsibility of the Board of Trustees is to support our extensive efforts to expand the scope of our cultural diplomacy, promote Qatari heritage and support the broad scope of creative design that will have a tangible effect on Qatar’s economic diversification.”
The Board of Trustees supports the ambitions of Qatar National Vision 2030 within preparing and issuing legislations that expand the role of Qatar Museums in protecting, managing and promoting cultural heritage. The Board of Trustees will have a substantial contribution in Qatar Museums’ efforts in support of Qatar’s recovery from the global pandemic and to ensure better coordination with national authorities to expand and encourage the field of cultural tourism in Qatar among visitors from all over the world.
At the top of priorities of the agenda of the Board of Trustees is the supervision of events and activities of Qatar Museums during FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
His Excellency Mr. Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the Supreme committee for Delivery and Legacy and the newly appointed member of the Board of Trustees said, “I have the great honor to join the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums Authority before of the launch of FIFA World Cup 2022. When Qatar submitted its bid to host the World Cup, a part of this bid was based on introducing Qatar to the world and our rich cultural heritage and institutions sponsoring this heritage will play a key role in achieving this goal.”
Also, Her Excellency Lolwah Al Khater, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Official Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “Our museums and events display Qatar’s culture to the world and I look forward to supporting Qatar Museums in its efforts to continue displaying the culture of Qatar whether to those in Qatar or in the whole world.”
Qatar Museums Board of Trustees constitutes a new branch that supports Qatar Museums’ contribution to building the nation’s capabilities and achieving Qatar National Vision 2030. Qatar Museums Authority resumes its efforts to enrich the cultural scene which enhances social development and community dialogue in multinational and multicultural society.
