Director of the Theater Affairs Center Salah Al Mulla said Monday that the Ministry of Culture and Sports agreed to increase the prize money for the university theater festival to QR750,000, compared to QR410,000.
Al Mulla expressed his appreciation of the support of HE the Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali, saying the move will increase competition between university teams participating in this year’s session. Two teams from Qatar University, one from the Community College, and another from North Atlantic are competing in this year’s edition.
Al-Mulla noted that the prize money nearly doubled for almost all categories. He noted that best play now would earn QR200,000, best script and direction would receive QR50,000 each. For acting, best lead actor would get 30,000 while best supporting actor would receive QR25,000. There also many other prizes including lighting, critics, and jury awards.
There was also a seminar held by theater critic Dr. Hassan Al Rashid, during which he praised the support of the ministry to theater and called on taking after acting talent.
HE the Minister of Culture and Sports commented during the talk and emphasized the value that criticism adds to any artistic work. His Excellency added that he was confident that young talents can make an impact in changing some of the negative aspects and behaviors in society.
