Coinciding with the celebration of “Doha, Capital of Islamic Culture 2021”

The festival session holds the name of the late artist Musa Abdul Rahman

 The second University Theater Festival (Our Youth on the Stage), organized by Theater Affairs Center, kicked off yesterday evening, at Qatar National Theater, under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Salah bin Ghanem Al-Ali, Minister of Culture and Sports.

The opening featured video speeches by a number of Arab artists highlighting the theatre’s cultural importance, and praising University Theatre Festival as part of the “Doha, Capital of Culture in the Islamic World” activities.

The festival kicked off amid precautionary measures with the theatrical performance of Qatar University’s “Martabat Sharaf” which is written by Tamim al-Burshid and directed by Abdullah al-Mulla. The play revolves around youth social issues. The festival coincides with the celebration of “Doha, Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021.”

The play was followed by a critical session during which critic Dr Marzouq Bashir, a professor at the Community College, spoke in the presence of the work team, a number of playwrights and officials of the Theatre Affairs Centre. A number of artists, including Ghanim al-Sulaiti, director Saad Burshid and artist Salah al-Mulla, spoke during the session and valued the teams eff orts in delivering their message which expresses important issues in the society.

During this session, which holds the name of the late artist Musa Abdul Rahman, four theatrical performances will compete introduced by Qatar University, the Theatre Department at the Community College and the North Atlantic College.

The festival awards include: best work, best script, best direction, best first role actor, best second role actor, best first role actress, best second role actress, best decor, best lighting, best visual and audio effects, best costumes special jury prize, in addition to the Theatre Affairs Centre’s appreciation awards in the fields of authorship, directing, establishing a theatrical team core, vocal performance, and acting.

The closing ceremony and the announcement of the festivals prizes coincide with the celebration of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the World Theatre Day, which falls on March 27.
