Within its weekly activities, the “writer and book” session hosted the writer and poet Samira Obeid to discuss her book “Knowledge Economy and School Innovation”, published by Zakreet Publishing House. The book examines knowledge economy that is based on human power and skills of initiation, creativity and innovation, which is the capital that controls everything and everything revolves around it. Accordingly, it is now commonly accepted among intellectuals that the differences between developed and underdeveloped countries are differences in the extent of creative minds and innovative production they have. Innovation has become the critical test for accelerating the progress of one people or succeeding another. Innovation has become the essential element in accelerating the development or the backwardness of any People. Innovation has also become an urgent and vital need for the communities that seek to reassert their existence, and even an essential requirement to respond to the will to survive within a humane society where life is getting complicated day by day due to the information and population explosion. The author considered this book a milestone in her cultural journey, where she moved from the field of literature and poetry to a new field, “academic research”. Through this field, she tried to highlight creativity and innovation that serves the knowledge economy, she explained, so that innovators contribute to the construction and development of the country. Innovative and creative minds can contribute effectively to the development of their country and accelerate the pace of development, she said. It has become essential for individuals through their contribution to self-fulfillment, the development of individual talents, and improving education, humanism, and the quality of life in general. Psychologists recognize the established fact that creativity is built since childhood, however, they also agree that creative trends and decisions can be developed at all stages of development. From the educational point of view, creativity involves bringing learners to this level of thinking at all levels and stages of education. Creative capacity, as intuitive and inspiring as it is, does not develop in a vacuum, but it emanates from the environment in general and the educational environment in particular, that encourages or impedes creativity. The book, she indicated, is divided into two parts, the first part deals with the knowledge economy, through which she revealed the uses of knowledge in developing the economy. In the second part, she employed her teaching experience to facilitate the discovery of talents among students and find out how talents can be invested to create a system that relies on both individual and collective talents. At the end of the session, the author urged writers both Qatari nationals and residents to translate their publications into the main languages outside Qatar so that the non-Arab writers realize that Qatari writers have valuable works in all fields that qualify them to participate in the foreign international book fairs held every year.
