A new chapter is taking place within the corridors of the Qatar Sports Club, which seems to be on the way to exciting elections to choose the president and vice president during the club’s general assembly scheduled for July 23. The coming elections will witness the competition between two lists, the first shall be the “Qatar” list, and the second shall be the “Hamad bin Suhaim” list, after Abdul Rahman Al-Dossary, the advisor, of His Excellency the Minister of Culture and Sports, confirmed that the decision to exclude the list of Sheikh Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani from running for the presidency of the club is illegal. The ministry confirmed the distinctiveness of Al-Raya Sports Magazine in its Friday edition, as it refers that the situation of the list of Sheikh Hamad bin Suhaim is legal; it will run for the upcoming elections, and that «the membership committee has remained silent until now despite the arrival of the ministry’s letter.» .. The ministry indicated that it had responded to the decision of the Membership and Elections Affairs Committee regarding the exclusion of the “Hamad bin Suhaim” list from competing in the elections based on Article 49, paragraph 6 of the Articles of Association of the club and Article 28. Paragraph 6 of the guidelines approved by the Membership and Elections Affairs Committee, and the Sports Affairs Department at the Ministry of Culture and Sports. The club had filed a letter to the ministry with the decision of the Membership and Elections Affairs Committee, the response came as excluding Hamad bin Sahim list was illegal, as the subscription and the fine were paid in the same fiscal year.
Abdul Rahman Al-Dossari, advisor of His Excellency the Minister, said: We responded to the Membership Affairs and Elections Committee in accordance with the provisions of the law regarding the decision to exclude the list of Sheikh Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani from running for presidency of the club, indicating that after reviewing the papers and according to the law, Sheikh Hamad’s list was renewed during the month of October. The fine was paid, and we, as a ministry, have the legal opinion that the integrity of the papers is in place and that the list fulfills the requirements. This came in our response to the committee last Wednesday after the end of working hours.
Al-Dossary pointed out that the Qatar Club membership committee is up to the responsibility and will look into the aforementioned justifications especially that we have elaborated our response to be clear, supported with evidence, and in accordance with the Club’s Articles of Association. Al-Dossary responded through Al-Majlis program on AlKass channels to the right ofmembers of the general assembly to withdraw confidence from the club’s board of directors during the season. “It is permissible”, he said, “to withdraw confidence from any board of directors if there are clear reasons for this, under the conditions for the convention of the extraordinary general assembly in which: Members are entitled to withdraw confidence, provided that the request is submitted by two-thirds of the members of the General Assembly, and that the vote is more than 50% if the quorum is complete.
Today, the Membership and Elections Affairs Committee will meet to discuss the response of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
