The Football Federation is participating in the meeting that the AFC will hold with the National Federations on the 15th of next June. This meeting is to be held in order to resolve the fate of its championships that were suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic. This has postponed all sporting activities although some advanced steps had been taken including the joint qualifiers for the Qatar World Cup 2022 and the Asia finals in China 2023. The AFC continues its “remote” meetings with the federation’s working committees in charge of its specialized work after the tournaments have stopped. These meetings study what would be the fate of resuming competitions for the continental federation. Many scenarios will be placed before those involved in the federation, who will in turn discuss them with the National Federations, taking into consideration the general situation of the virus and what the situation will be.
There are two teams representing Qatar in the AFC Champions League: Al Sadd which leads its group and Al Dahil which comes second after only two rounds of the group league matches. There will be an important option for the Asian federation to resolve this league and to hold the matches by the system of gathering in one country. Information indicate that the AFC is thinking of holding the matches in Qatar as there are stadiums and facilities that would accommodate the matches of the four groups. It is also expected that the matches will take place in early August, which is a month of high temperature. The competitions need air-conditioned stadiums, and these stadiums are only found in Qatar. Al-Annabi leads its group three rounds before the end of the qualifiers in the group and its last match will be against the Omani team, which can decide who will lead. This is preceded by two games with India and Bangladesh. Furthermore, the Asian Federation, through FIFA, can settle the continental groups’ qualifiers through the gathering system to complete the remaining matches. This is a possibility being studied by the two parties FIFA and the Asian Federation.
