The Ministry of Culture and Sports launches the ‘Planting Trees’ event within the ‘ Doha, OIC Youth Capital 2019’ and the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum, the youth arm of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation activities, in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Friends of the Environment Center, Katara Hospitality and Hotel Park.
The Planting Trees event aims to commemorate Doha’s hosting of the activities of Doha OIC Youth Capital 2019, promote sustainable development that achieves the National Vision 2030, also to affirm the value of planting in the religion of Islam, and to achieve institutional partnerships between ministries.
Amidst the event, a group of youth participating from the OIC Member States planted a number of trees, as a contribution to increasing the green area and promoting environmental development, as well as to increase knowledge on the different types of trees, plants and their diverse environments. An overview will be provided about each tree and its source.
It is also expected to give an explanation about the methods and ways of cultivating and taking care of these trees so that the public becomes aware of the garden planted by the world Muslim youth, along with demonstrating the importance of planting and cultivation for the nations, notably Islam exhorts us to plant and cultivate, as reported in the hadith of the Prophet, Peace and Blessings be upon him: “Never does a Muslim plant trees or cultivate land and then a bird or a person or an animal eats from it, but that is a charity on his behalf”, narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim.
The launching is attended by community members from the OIC Member States and their sons, as well as a number of ambassadors from these states, completing the opening ceremony with a miniature environment of each state’s community. The Committee working on the implementation of the events of the Doha OIC Youth Capital 2019 seeks to leave a deep impact under the concept of the slogan “Youth is the Power of the Nation,” by linking the Muslim youth with every essential component of their lives that has a real influence on their behavior; since youth is a real part of the nation’s future, and they therefore have to carry this message with all its intellectual, psychological, social and historical aspects.
In order to enhance the impact of the environment on the life of the Nation and consolidate the concept of sustainable development among the Muslim youth, the Committee has decided to hold a side event accompanying Doha OIC Youth Capital 2019 event, under the name of “Planting Trees.”
